Adult contemporary artist, Frank Shiner, has had music and performance in his blood his whole life. From the time he was little, his father’s singing had already shown him the impact that lyrics and sound can have on the soul, and he pursued his musical instincts onward through high school where he was encouraged to follow musical theatre and later classical theatre.  Frank played more than 50 theatre and television roles before meeting his true love, Suzanne, settling down with his family, and building a life away from his musical roots.

Shiner2One memorable night in 2010, Frank was encouraged, by Suzanne, to start pursuing his long-time love of music again. A few months later, his first and most important musical influence, his father, passed away, but like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Frank found healing and new life in his old love of music.  He focused on his music and his family, and began working with legendary music producer, Gary Katz (Steely Dan, Harry Connick Jr., Joe Cocker), to create his debut album, “The Real Me”.  The album encompasses a new breed of standards that tell the story of his long-time love affair with his wife, Suzanne.  Released in advance of the album, I had an opportunity this week to preview Frank’s new debut single, “Feels Like Home”, which is a touching example of the care and love he puts into his music!

The lead track on the album, “Feels Like Home”, is a reprise of a song originally written by Randy Newman for his 1993 musical of Faust and performed by Bonnie Raitt.  It was also recorded by Linda Rondstadt, Canadian artist Chantal Kreviazuk, a trio composed of Rondstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, and a duet of Martina McBride and Raul Malo, as well as Newman himself.

Shiner retains all the sweetness of the original song, and you can sense, from the very first moments of the song, the loving tenderness you’re about to be treated to.  Frank’s voice has a classic quality about it that is reminiscent of crooners like Frank Sinatra and Mel Torme, but Newman’s lyrics are rooted more in acts like Van Morrison, Tom Waits and Paul Simon, creating a unique blending of styles. From beginning to end, “Feels Like Home”  is a beautiful love story, and Shiner definitely adds his own polish to a classic love song.   I encourage you to check it out, pick it up today on iTunes or Amazon, and play it to the person you love!

In addition to the single, Shiner also released the official music video for “Feels Like Home”, directed by Anton Evangelista, which you can see below:
