SEPTEMBER SPOTLIGHT: We’re “Diggin’ On You” Too, Mark Cantwil! | Americana Rock/Alt-Country – Dayton, OH

All this month, we’re putting the spotlight right square on local singer-songwriter, Mark Cantwil!  Together with his band, The Punch Drunk Heroes, Cantwil weaves his Americana roots of heavy topics and storytelling into a mix of high-energy alt-country and late 80’s and early 90’s rock. If you’re a fan of artists like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, The Black Crowes, Chris Knight, Drive-By Truckers, or Van Morrison, then having a local act like Cantwil around is gonna make your year!

Mark Cantwil hails from right here in the Dayton area, and whether he’s playing solo or with the band, he can often be found playing cool shows in and around town. He’s also quickly becoming a seasoned pro and plays a number of shows well outside the Ohio borders as well as opening for acts like Molly Hatchet, Chris Knight, The Bacon Brothers, Sister Hazel and more!  

Last Chance Johnny, released in 2012, is the debut album for Cantwil, and it really gives you a feel for his small-town roots and singer-songwriter style.  Highlights from this album include the title track, “Last Chance Johnny”, as well as “Never Take Me Alive”, “Ghost of Katie”, “Cock Rock”, and “Cisco”. 

Earlier this year, Cantwil released his sophomore album, Diggin’ On You.  We’ve had the pleasure of getting acquainted with a number of tracks off this killer album by having them in rotation over on W937 Dayton Radio, and they’ve become pretty ingrained into our weekly “must play” list!  Diggin’ On You has a number of outstanding tracks including “The Puppet”, “The Greatest Show Around”, “Tonight”, “Crazy One”, “Long Live the Night”, and in particular, the title track for this album, “Diggin’ On You”.
