Square Roots Live presents “Forever Young” Celebrating the Music of Bob Dylan. On Saturday, December 5, nearly 30 local and regional musicians will gather at Square Roots Records in Troy for a one night only celebration of the music of Bob Dylan, with proceeds benefiting Stivers School of the Arts‘ Creative Writing Department in Dayton, OH!
The event lineup has more than 25 talented regional musicians joining in the celebration, including Spikedriver’s front man Jesse Henry as well as Sharon Lane, Paige Beller, Nikki Dakota, Scott Lee, Max Nunery (The Repeating Arms), Charlie Tipton, Todd Oaks, Brad Denson, CAAMP, Ramblin Mac, Trey Stone, Eric Henry, Chad Wells, Cassie Baker, Colin Richards, Aarika Voegele, Rich Reuter and the Eternal Youth, and a many more talented musicians!
All of these amazing artists are coming together to support the Stivers School of the Arts, which has a rich history dating back over 100 years! “Stivers School for the Arts is the only
public school in the Dayton City School District that has been designated as a grade 7-12 school. Students enter Stivers at the 7th grade level by audition and make a full six-year commitment.” Stivers is unique in that they allow students a creative outlet of expression rarely seen in other public schools.
Sharon Lane, who teaches in the Creative Writing Department and is a prime example of fine Dayton area musicianship, has
dedicated more than a decade of her life to the students of Stivers. Her enthusiasm for music and creating is infectious, and she recently invited me to a spoken word performance by her students called “Engraved” where it was easy to see the effect on our young people of having a creative outlet. The students were impressive, with each performer expressing themselves through poetry, storytelling, music, theater, and humor. By the end of the night, I was truly inspired by these young people and their view of the world!
