We got our hands on two killer tracks this week from Boston-based alternative rockers, Blue Moon Harem, and we can safely say that “Lie” and “Finland” are gonna’ rock your world with a feast of gritty guitar riffs, dynamic melodies, rippin’ leads, and heartbeats that will get you pumped to the core!
“Finland” is the title track off Blue Moon Harem’s sophomore album, released in 2012, and the powerful and epic journey sound of this piece is off the charts!
It starts off with this really cool, and tense, acoustic guitar riff that continues on through each verse and lends a strong “roots” feel to the piece that really grounds this piece and gives it a strong emotional dynamic. Building quickly through the verses, layers of soft percussion, along with a sprinkling of psychedelic and spacey electric guitar, begin to evoke the drama that’s about to unfold. A smooth, pop rock vocal line grabs you with soulful and thoughtful lyrics that lead you into a driving and triumphant chorus.
Coming off Blue Moon Harem’s yet-to-be-released third album, ‘Deep Into Blue’, is a brand new heavy-hitter titled “Lie”, and this one gave us chills! We can’t wait for you to have the chance to give this one a spin because it is killer, through and through!
It immediately reminded me of a fantastic band called “To No End” that’s actually right here in the Dayton and Cincinnati area as well as some serious hints of national act “Days of the New.” The vocals on this one are rich and gritty and will easily hit home with the heart, and once again, Blue Moon Harem perfectly marries this very earthy, bluesy, Americana type sound with dirty, rock & roll riffs. The tension that builds and releases is something the heart longs for, and “Lie” is a fantastic example of songwriting on every level!
Blue Moon Harem came together a number of years ago when Jon Bix and Demetri Joannou collaborated on an album, experimented on some ideas, and released their first album, ‘Requiem’. After years of extensive touring, the duo decided to create an album more focused on songwriting with other musicians than “technological wizardry”, so they joined up with drummer, Steve Hart, to create their second album, ‘Finland’. Stimulated by fresh ideas and a reinvigorated desire to get out on the road, Blue Moon Harem has now completed their third album, ‘Deep Into Blue’, scheduled for release on March 23rd, for which they continued to develop their rich and honest soul music by adding bassist, Jose Hernandez, to their lineup.
