Saturday June 13th the guitar legend brought his new cartel back to Dayton for another career go around. With songs spanning his time barking at the moon and committing the ultimate sin with Ozzy. He also journeyed to the badlands and played a few choice cuts from his recent release with Red Dragon Cartel. He’s played and toured with Ozzy and lived to tell about it.

Troy’s Blanche Devereaux plays and performs metal like they are extracting demons from your inner most self. Basically yanking them out, wadding them up, and before you can breathe relieved, ram them back in. It’s better to have your personal demons contorted, disoriented and confused by the external environment before reinsertion. Mikey Devereaux’s bellowed growl complimented the maniacal sounds from Danny Miramontes and Jeremy Stone. It’s got thrash, metalcore and a bit of black metal putting The Black Dahlia Murder on Cannibal Corpses’s alter of sacrifice. They took the stage burning away the cold of the night on ”Noctural Consumption.” They encouraged all to step in the fire and “Man Up.” It only burns a little. They have been around for a while and seem to keep getting heavier.

Def Leppard said “Love Bites,” The Vinnie Vincent Invasion warned “Love Kills,” and on this 13th day, the water logged guy with the machete regularly slaughtered those making love. So it was fitting on Friday, February 13th, everyone’s favorite pre-bloody Valentine’s Day, the Therapy Cafe held the Blackhearts Ball. Hearts, candy and flower’s done darkwave, experimental, shoegaze and industrial style, with lots of balloons to kick around. The masquerade masks, stilettos, makeup, leather and lace were on display and it didn’t really matter who wore what.

The inaugural Blackheart’s Ball was the creation of Curse of Cassandra and something they hope to repeat every year when love fills the night and the guy with the miners outfit and pick axe comes back. Why not celebrate Halloween twice a year?
