The crowd begins to form once again around the main stage during this year’s ninth Dayton Sideshow at the Yellow Cab  Building, located on 4th Street this past May.  It was the second and last day of the yearly art event, and already those  who have been in attendance have observed some of the unlimited talent of the artists that reside in the Dayton  community.  Throughout the weekend, over 40 bands and artists will have performed on the three stages. It was getting  later in the evening when the individuals of the hybrid collection of punk/rap Dip Spit made their way towards the  platform.

cover imageOver the last few months, I’ve heard about a number of large shows coming out of Rockstar Pro Arena in Dayton. While I hadn’t had a chance yet to personally make a show there, I was curious as to what’s going down at this venue, so late last month, I contacted and met with part-owner, GeeGee Bradley, to feature them on our second Venue Spotlight!

A little over a week ago, I had the privilege of meeting with Dawn Montgomery of local Dayton company, Razdabar Sound & Management, to talk about their efforts in connecting the local scene!   I’d been seeing postings in local Facebook groups about their networking meetings in north Dayton that made me curious, but I had also heard that these meetings mostly involved the specific genres of rap, hip-hop, and R&B.  However, when I met with local music & entertainment attorney, Melissa Replogle, in late April, she had mentioned that Razdabar was looking to expand their meetings to include as many genres as possible, so I got a hold of Dawn and we met at the Razdabar studio here in Dayton for a tour and a chat!

afterlifepromotionToday, we are stoked to help present the release of the brand new video for the hot, new song, “The Afterlife”, from indie rockers, To No End! “The Afterlife” comes to us off the Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio based act’s sophomore album, Peril & Paracosm, which has received rave reviews and tons of local press, and for good reason (We snagged a copy of this album earlier this year and saw these guys live, and they blew us away!) “The Afterlife” is a dark and soulful song that really gets in your brain, and the new video incorporates those feelings perfectly with hazy, live performance style images and deep shadows interspersed with flickering images of things not quite seen.  With excellent hooks, heavy blues rock guitar, funky rhythms, fantastic vocals, a trippy breakdown, and a visual feast, what’s not to love about “The Afterlife”!

Rap and hip-hop artist, Young HEAT, is no stranger to pain. Growing up right here in Dayton among some of the most corrupt elements of our city, his music reflects many of the dark realities that are often found, but commonly ignored or glossed over, in city life.

Young HEAT is not afraid to spell out the explicit content that has filled his life, and if you have ears that are too sensitive to deal with and empathize with the raw, dirty underbelly of city life, then “Everyday I Feel This Pain” will leave you bleeding and dead on your feet.   (more…)

ss-paigebeller-mar-14 copyPaige Beller is singer-songwriter inspiration at it’s finest! Listening to her dynamic, soulful and penetrating voice or digging on her touching and revealing lyrics, you just want to reach out to her. Beyond her lyrics and vocals though is a broadly talented musician and a dynamic performer. Paige is driven to write, sing and perform.  When I last spoke with her, she said she is currently working in six different acts, most notably Jasper the ColossalMaylinerPaige and the Belairs, and her solo act Paige Does Dayton.  As a full-time musician and talented song-writer, vocalist, guitarist, drummer, and performer, Paige Beller is inspiration to expose ourselves, push ourselves for what we love, and share our love of music with others.
