DUS-Songwriter-7-9-16___redocompressedThe Dayton Underground Series continued last month by featuring six phenomenal local songwriters at Jimmie’s Ladder 11 in Dayton, and the night was dreamy from start to finish! The crowd was completely lured in by music from Raya, Kyleen Downes, Kevin Milner, Todd the Fox & Victoria Harper, Sharon Lane, and Jeremy & Lynne and The Typical Johnsons!

Maybe you think songwriters just sit around and sing folk songs by the light of a campfire, but we brought together a diverse group of writers who showed the crowd at Jimmie’s that songwriters can be fresh, pretty, political, soulful, funny, and even a bit rowdy from time to time!

13346895_564583110391296_139164524013798081_nIt was spring of 2015, at Sideshow X, when I first heard the friendly, sweet voice of local singer-songwriter, Kyleen Downes, and now, coming up in July 2016, she’s preparing for the release of her highly-anticipated debut album, ‘Maybe Sometimes’!

Her voice floated above the crowds on that day and found its way into my brain like a cool breeze, and since that show, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing her perform a number of times and watched her grow as a performer and artist!

Gentlehealing-cover

The new single, “Gentle Healing,” by Shine On Records artist and Scotland-born singer-songwriter, Dave Bremner, is the perfect remedy when you’re seeking refuge from the battering of life’s storms.

The overall message of “Gentle Healing” seems to be about how nature, time, and love can provide a sense of clarity and relative perspective about your life in ways that nothing else can. Supporting and reinforcing the lyrical message, the folksy rhythms and melodies are uplifting and lighthearted.  Touches of electric guitar are tastefully layered alongside a simpler acoustic guitar rhythm that is the heart of the track, and there is a dreamy, almost lazy, quality to “Gentle Healing” that brings together the music and the message really cohesively. This is a subtle, but extremely powerful, characteristic that helps place “Gentle Healing” a cut above others in this genre.

When in need of some “Gentle Healing,” you’ll definitely want to have this new single by Dave Bremner close at hand!  Get your copy today at the link below!

BMHProfileFeeling “lucky” is often an elusive quality, but Boston-based Alt-rockers, Blue Moon Harem, have nailed that singular emotion with their new single, “Lucky,” off their forthcoming third album, ‘Deep Into Blue.’

“Lucky” is a fresh, upbeat, and hooky piece that elicits a sense of wonder, lightness, and warmth.  The music rolls through your body, tugs at the heart, and says “Come! Let’s have some fun!”   Good-time acoustic guitar rhythms pump out a Folksy/Americana sound. Just a hint of bluesy soul in the lead brightens up your day, and the Alt-Rock style that holds it all together is a cool mix of power and layers and drive.   (more…)
