The Dayton Area Music Scene Needs….

Posted: January 11, 2014 by Kimberly Weiss in Local Music News

Everyone has an opinion about what the local scene needs, but what do we tend to think about it collectively?   Do we generally have a poor outlook or a positive outlook on what’s happening in and around Dayton?  Could a peek at the collective thoughts provide insight about what our scene really needs?

I, as an individual, haven’t heard any significant portion of what people think about it, but I feel like I hear more positive comments about the Dayton scene from people outside of the area and negative comments from the folks within the area.  That’s not surprising since most people on the inside of an organization or scene have key insights to how it’s working and whether or not it’s working well.   That’s also not to say that I don’t hear positive comments all the time from inside our scene or negative comments from people currently outside the scene.  I’ve heard all of those things.   Does that mean the people inside the area don’t have a right to constructive criticism and outlets for frustrations?  Of course not!  Tell us what you think the Dayton area scene needs more of, and let’s see if we can work together to make positive changes!   (more…)

We’ve all been asked to play shows with an act we’ve never seen or heard of.  For some of us, it’s a scary thought to play with someone we know nothing about.  For some of us, it’s thrilling to play with someone new.  When this happens, how do you/your band handle it?
