newmountiancoverPhiladelphia jazz and Christian artist, Bonita Adele, has just released her beautiful new single, “New Mountain,” and it’s a wonderful twist on country artist, Neal McCoy’s, original 2011 release!

“New Mountain” is Bonita’s first release with Shine On Records, and she does a wonderful job mixing together jazz, soft rock, and pop elements to give this song a fresh new look.  The smooth saxophone intro and Bonita’s soft, but passionate, voice are key elements to recreating this tune, but Bonita also pays serious homage to McCoy’s country roots of the song with her piano work and supporting instrumentation.  Fans of artists like Barbara Streisand or Carole King will become fast fans of Bonita Adele!

The Dayton music scene has evolved a lot over the years, both for better and worse. One thing many longtime Dayton concertgoers bemoan is the lack of national touring acts stopping to play the Gem City, something that in the late 1980s and ’90s was actually pretty common. One promoter in particular was instrumental in making Dayton a regular place for national touring bands to play. His name is Ken Gross.

English songwriter and musician, Marcus Kane, took up songwriting a few years ago when an injury kept him at home for some time.  During that time, he fell in love with his new found freedom of expression, and his diverse song collection shows his love of many different genres.  His desire to create music has only grown, and now what he wants most is to collaborate and share with other musicians. The four songs Kane has just released on iTunes are perfect for music lovers who appreciate a no-nonsense, loving, and happy approach to music.  They also demonstrate Kane’s abilities as a songwriter and are a shout out to any aspiring collaborators who may want to join him on a musical adventure.

A little over a week ago, I had the privilege of meeting with Dawn Montgomery of local Dayton company, Razdabar Sound & Management, to talk about their efforts in connecting the local scene!   I’d been seeing postings in local Facebook groups about their networking meetings in north Dayton that made me curious, but I had also heard that these meetings mostly involved the specific genres of rap, hip-hop, and R&B.  However, when I met with local music & entertainment attorney, Melissa Replogle, in late April, she had mentioned that Razdabar was looking to expand their meetings to include as many genres as possible, so I got a hold of Dawn and we met at the Razdabar studio here in Dayton for a tour and a chat!
